Description
MTN and Airtel are the two Ugandan networks you can top up here. Send shillings to a prepaid number in Uganda from the UK, pay in pounds by bank transfer, and the airtime is applied once the payment reaches our account.
Shilling amounts and prices
Both networks offer the same five amounts, from 10,000 to 200,000 UGX. Prices differ between MTN and Airtel:
- MTN: 10,000 UGX £3.69, 20,000 UGX £7.39, 50,000 UGX £18.39, 100,000 UGX £36.69, 200,000 UGX £73.39
- Airtel: 10,000 UGX £3.69, 20,000 UGX £7.19, 50,000 UGX £17.79, 100,000 UGX £35.29, 200,000 UGX £70.49
Getting the number right
Start with +256 and leave out the first 0 of the local number. For example, a number written as 07xx locally becomes +256 7xx. A wrong digit sends the airtime to someone else, and it cannot be taken back.
Make sure you choose the network the number is with today. Only prepaid numbers can receive airtime.
Who it suits
- Ugandans in the UK keeping family in Kampala, Entebbe or upcountry in credit.
- Friends and churches supporting someone who needs airtime for calls or data.
- Travellers with a Ugandan SIM they use on return visits.
Sending to Kenya, Rwanda or elsewhere too? See our full international top-up list.
Questions
Is this Mobile Money?
No. This tops up airtime on the phone line. It does not send money to an MTN MoMo or Airtel Money wallet.
Can I order airtime for several people in one go?
Yes. Add one item per number to your basket, then pay for the whole order with a single bank transfer.
