Best eSIM for Morocco: A Guide for UK Travellers

Morocco is only a short flight from the UK, and it is popular for long weekends in Marrakech, beach weeks in Agadir and Essaouira, and tours through Fes, the Atlas Mountains and the desert. Morocco is not in the EU, so UK roaming plans often charge extra there. A travel eSIM gives you mobile data while your UK SIM stays in your phone. Here is how to choose one and get it working.

Do I need an eSIM for Morocco?

You can get online in Morocco in three main ways:

  • Roaming with your UK network: check the rate for Morocco on your network’s roaming page, as it is usually higher than in Europe.
  • A local Moroccan SIM: available at airports and in town, usually with your passport.
  • A travel eSIM: bought in advance and installed at home, so it works as soon as you switch it on after landing.

For a short break or a tour, a travel eSIM saves you finding a phone shop on arrival. See the plans on our Morocco eSIM page.

How much data do I need in Morocco?

Type of trip Rough amount
Long weekend in Marrakech using maps and messaging 1GB to 2GB
A week by the beach with photos and social media 2GB to 5GB, or an unlimited plan
Touring with ride apps, train bookings and video calls An unlimited plan

The medinas in Marrakech and Fes are a maze of narrow lanes, and live maps and location sharing help a great deal there, so many visitors use more data than they would at home.

Which plan should I choose?

Our Morocco plans include unlimited data for 3, 5 or 7 days, which suit short breaks and week-long holidays, and a 2GB plan for 15 days for lighter use over a longer trip. The days start when the eSIM becomes active, so switch it on when you arrive. Compare them on the Morocco eSIM plans table.

Will my phone work with an eSIM?

Your phone must be unlocked and support eSIM. Most recent iPhones, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones can use one. Apple’s iPhone eSIM guide shows the steps, and our UK eSIM guide explains how to check that your phone is unlocked.

How do I set up a Morocco eSIM?

  1. Order your plan and pay by UK bank transfer or PayPal.
  2. Once your payment is confirmed, we send the QR code by email or live chat.
  3. Scan the QR code at home over Wi-Fi and leave the eSIM on your phone.
  4. After landing, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line.
  5. Turn off data roaming on your UK SIM so it does not run up charges.

Where does the signal work in Morocco?

Signal is generally good in Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Fes, Tangier, Agadir and Essaouira, and along the main roads between them. It can be weak in parts of the Atlas Mountains and in the desert around Merzouga and Zagora, so download offline maps before those trips. Read the GOV.UK travel advice for Morocco before you go.

Travelling on to Spain?

A Morocco eSIM works in Morocco only. If your route continues by ferry to mainland Spain, add a Spain eSIM for that part of the journey, and ask us about Ceuta or Melilla. Every destination is listed on our travel eSIM page.

Frequently asked questions

Will I keep my UK number?

Yes. The eSIM is added beside your UK SIM, so texts such as bank codes still reach you. Your UK network may charge for calls you answer abroad.

Can I make calls with a Morocco eSIM?

The plans are mobile data only. You can call and message through WhatsApp, FaceTime and similar apps.

Can I send credit to a Moroccan number?

Yes. Use our Morocco mobile top-up to add credit to a friend’s or relative’s phone from the UK.

Is an unlimited plan really unlimited?

Unlimited plans give you as much data as you need for normal use during the plan, but a fair-use policy can apply. Ask us before you buy if you expect very heavy use.
